The final countdown: 1 week till closing
We close in less than a week and things were seeming a bit precarious because our kitchen countertop delivery had been delayed. If they didn’t arrive on time (the 22nd), there would be a good chance that we wouldn’t close on time. That, friends, would be a bummer.
Luckily, the quartz counters arrived from Kansas City as expected. The appropriate holes were drilled, the edges were formed and the counters were placed. Success!
Below are a few photos with the island counter in place. Included in the mix is the double-bowl sink with integrated drainboard. This sink has a fun story, as it originated in — of all places — Australia. Since I can’t deal with drying dishes by hand (long story) and my husband can’t deal with a drying rack cluttering up the counter, we agreed that an integrated drainboard was the way to go.
The problem: We couldn’t find a style that we liked. Most designs that include a drainboard are extraordinarily modern, with zero-radius corners (i.e., super-square corners that, in my opinion, would be more difficult to clean). Or the shape may have been good, but it wasn’t an undermount, which we really want. I found this one online and contacted the nearest dealer — in sunny California. He was super to deal with and I highly recommend the Oliveri brand of sinks. The one we chose includes a dedicated cutting board. Check it:

We had originally planned on getting concrete counters but changed to quartz. We went with Cambria, a U.S. quartz company. The color, Oakhampton, is a deep espresso color. Love it:

The master bathroom has received some love this last week, as well. Faucets are in:

And our vanity lights — Hudson Valley Pelham Wall Sconces in satin nickel — were installed:

The girls’ bathrooms have been outfitted in satin nickel, as well:

Finally, all of the Kohler toilets were delivered. Here’s the girls’ — a Memoirs style, the same as in the master and powder baths:

Wow! It’s getting real exciting now. I really can’t wait to see it. When I get back to town you will be all moved in. Tell J that on my way home to Kingman I will be stopping in Eldorado. Keep the pics coming so I can stay informed on the progress.
Thanks.
